Production Log 12

In this week, we started to do our editing of our opening sequence.(According to our schedule) It been going quite well as we included typical conventions of a BSR, such as dark lighting and slow camera movement. As a result, this was quite successful as it made it seem more realistic to portray the working-class life. We may of had a few difficulties with the official camera, due to charger problems and the battery park not working. Therefore, we resulted in using our own camera to film most of the scenes

Production Log 11

In this week we started to do our recording, we shot most of our scenes near the locations we wanted such as the gritty areas or alleyways that convey the working-class life.  However, most of the locations we shot at were quite bright and connoted quite a happy-lifestyle rather than the gritty working class we wanted to portray. Therefore, we had to change locations a few weeks into the production in order, to achieve our main purpose to convey the poverty of Britain.


We did not really stick to the lines of our plan, as we decided not to include much dialogue to add more tension, even though our script had a lot more.

Production Log Week 10

In this week, we have discussed and made a treatment for our movie. The treatment contained information such as target audience, narrative, conventions and a lot more. Through the use of this we fully and properly understood the parts that made up our movie and how it represented and mirror an actual BSR.  We also looked at things such as the style and location, if the locations would represent a BSR and show the gritty working class life that we wanted to represent

Production Log Week 9

In this week we properly planned out our production schedule, this was used to seek the days when our group was free to film certain scenes. This was quite beneficial as it made sure that all the days were secured for our group was free, making us more organised and finally filming our movie. We also planned on the days when we would re-shoot our movie for more improvements and remove any mistakes

In addition to this, we made a production script in order to give us an idea of shots and angles we were going take, making us more prepared and clear when to shoot and film. Other factors such as storyline and dialogue were also taken into consideration so we have a clear mind when we film.

Production Log 5

This week we have looked at the history and timeline of British Social Realism  and how their conventions,style and themes have changed since a couple of decades.  The themes were mostly generally to be gangs, violence and drugs to portray the hardship of britain and a dark lifestyle.  Digital technology was under-developed in the 1960s so the style of editing, lighting, mise-en-scene and camera shots differed from today's century.

Even though most of the images were taken on a sunny day, we are hoping the weather would become darker so that the natural lighting can reflect the dark tone of a BSR. In addition, to most of these images being set in the center of Vauxhall station.

1ST Image: The first image is a small alleyway, with a few raindrops on the floor, The reason we like this location as we can visualize the protagonist being secluded in this location and alone, the floor is quite wet reflecting the dark gritty tone of the movie. The location is also quite eye-catching as we think it can be quite iconic to the audience due to the dim colours.

2ND Image: The second image is also a tight alleyway. The reason we have quite a few alleyways is due to most BSRs having this conventionally location. Therefore, it conforms to these conventionally locations.

3rd Image. The third image reflects almost like a wasteland. This is due to the vast space and how wide and open it is - as it can connote the protagonist isolation from society and his solitude. Moreover, the rundown buildings can really add to the tone of how chaotic the protagonist life. This can also attract the audience due to creating escapism as you would not really see much people here to hang out.

4th Image. The fourth image is near the river. This can  challenge the conventions of a BSR as it looks more calm and peaceful. Therefore, connoting an nice lifestyle for the protagonist. This can also be quite eye-catching towards the audience due to the vast open space and how attractive it is. The river can also be a place where many characters hang out to feel at peace, as we feel not every location in a BSR should connote the hardship of Britain.

Final image. This may be similar to to the third image, However, there is not much destruction in the scene to connote the hardship of the protagonist life. This also portray the protagonist isolation as he can often go here to be alone and excluded from the hard society he lives in, A lot of people could personal identify with this location due to many people in society wanting to be alone and excluded from the poverty of life.
