Pre-Production
Blogger
Blogger was a software used throughout the production of our film opening sequence. However, in our Pre-production we used it for a lot of research and planning that was vital to our final treatment. For example, we did planning such as production schedules or research such as on themes and genres on different types of BSR, or even Film4 itself. The result of this widened our knowledge on specific areas on our opening sequence and was demonstrated in our end product.
The strengths of blogger is that it kept all my work organized and was easy to refer to when I needed certain information on topics such as Film4 or BSR conventions. The reason it was organised was because on digital media, everything is much easier to look after rather than using print or paper where it can easily get damaged or even lost. Therefore, the simplicity within the blogger made it easier to refer to notes and keep everything organised so that I know how up to date I am with my coursework.
On the other hand, there were a few limitations of blogger. For example, uploading certain videos only allowed a certain restricted amount of MB. Therefore, I had to stay close to the MB limit to upload certain footage to the blogger. As a result, some footage was hard to upload if it was over the limit. Another limitation was that it quite hard to fit certain pictures and font sizes within the pages, therefore some of the work that was does had a very disorientated structure, making it hard to keep certain work organised within the pages.
Overall, my personal development on using Blogger has made it a lot easier to use. I can easily refer to notes, upload certain footage in the limit of MB and keep everything in chronological order therefore, making sure that the progress made in my coursework is up to date.
YouTube
YouTube was also a software that used in a lot of my product. It was used a lot for research on other BSR's in our post-production, due to this software having easy accessibility to other movies to refer to. For example, in one type of work I had to compare BSR to Hollywood therefore, most of the clips i refereed to where from YouTube where I can use blogger to upload certain clips, thus making me compare and contrast clips from YouTube.
The strengths of using YouTube was the easy accessibility to certain clips. I could search for the clip I want in seconds. You tube also has a wide selection of clips to choose from, making my choice more varied within what I need to choose.
On the other hand, You tube may not have clips that were specific from my choice, for example If I wanted a clip from a certain movie within a certain scene, it may not have it making it hard for me to select that clip. An example would be YouTube could show a whole movie of the movie I was looking for, but I would only need a certain scene from it.
Overall, my progress with YouTube is that it has been useful and efficient to use, as it allowed me to select wide ranges of videos to give examples and references throughout my whole of the course.
Powerpoint
PowerPoint was used in quite a few of my projects within my work. It was usually used as a different format rather than word, to show information in a summarized way and organized presentation in order, to showcase my information and research in different sections
One strength of using PowerPoint is that I could use it to store research in an organized section. I could store research such as information , themes and genres about BSR that I have looked into. In addition, to the ability to upload it to my blogger due to the use of One Drive transferring these files.
However, one weakness is that it could sometimes create a struggle to import it into my blogger. The use of OneDrive created a link to showcase my presentation on blogger however, if the link was appeared to be broken or it did not work for technical reasons, then it could waste time on uploading it to my blog.
While using , it has been easier to upload my PowerPoint to my blogger due to OneDrive not having problems with the links, making all my research in my Blogger organized.
Excel
Excel was used to plan schedules and also plan our opening sequence. Throughout the use of this we understood and organized our planning. For example, we used sheets to plan things such as what camera shots to use, the dialogue within the movie and other factors that take place within our movie.
One strength of using Excel was that most of my work within it was used to demonstrate how the events of my opening sequence would go in a certain order, making it easy to refer to and keep track of
One weakness of using it though was that I could not use much images or diagrams within it, therefore making it hard to have visuals.
Overall, my progress was quite effective while using it due to it being easy to refer to due to it having a organized presentation and layout.
Production.
Final Cut Pro
Throughout the use of Final Cut Pro we used this software to edit our movie in the most idealistic way. This was quite easy and effective to use in order to establish our opening sequence with fonts, cuts and sound.
One strength of using FinalCutPro was that it was quite easy to use compared to other software such as Abode or iMovie, due to it being more advanced as well. For example, the use of sound editing made it easier that it was synchronous due to the ability of changing how loud the audio is and if it overlaps with the scene. Another aspect is the actual editing of the clips, using fast cuts to make sure the match on action was ideal.
One weakness however was that we experienced a lot of difficulties within our production of the opening sequence. For example, FinalCutPro randomly erased all our memory and clips, making us start from scratch and re-edit the movie, making it quite an unreliable software that can experience these type of difficulties.
My personal development of it however, was that when it erased our memory, we was able to re-edit our opening sequence even better than before, making it quite beneficial to us that we got to re-edit our opening in a new way.
Digital Camera.
The Digital Canon HD camera was used in our production to film our actual opening sequence in the end. Also, our Digital Camera was handheld and could be attached to our tripod for more grip and steady filming.
A strength of using the camera was it is easy to store due to it having a good weight and size and not being fragile or weak. Also, the camera could be easily attached to the tripod so that the filming could e a lot more steadier and precise, making it more clear to the audience. However, the good strength of it was that we could choose if we needed it to be attached to the tripod, most of the time we used it with freely hand-held due to it conforming to the conventions of a BSR
However, a weakness of the camera is that most of the time it wouldn't be fully charged or there
would be a problem with the battery pack. Making it quite hard to film at times due to these technical problems.
Overall, most of my personal development while using the Camera, lead our group to use our own camera that had just as good quality as a result, making it easier, faster and efficient to film our movie in a certain period of time.
MP3 Unsigned.
MP3 unsigned was a website that we used to download unsigned audio tracks that could be used in our opening sequence, in order to avoid any copyright. Due to this free accessibly we looked at and acquired many different songs that could be suited in our opening sequence, most of the genre was rap.
A good strength of this was it expended our variety of music, rather than listening to mainstream music that is recognizable and constantly used. We used a rap song with quite synchronous sound within our opening sequence keep in action, making it more dynamic and alive. It was also easy to import music to our movie.
However, a weakness was that most of the music was very limited to it's quality, sometimes the music would have bad audio and lyrics that would not relate to our film , making it hard to look for underground music that would relate and fit into our opening.
Overall, the progress of it was good, we found a track that was synchronous and had lyrics that could personally identify to the audience. It also made the website beneficial to use and avoid copyright
Mac
The main hardware we used throughout the course was the Mac. This was mostly used to use all the software inside it such as Powerpoint, Word, FinalCutPro. It was also a crucial hardware due to it having the essential app - FinalCutPro in addition, to it saving all our editing on that hardware to
One strength of using a Mac that it had all the software we used to produce my research and opening sequence. It also has an easy to use interface with all the shortcuts I need to go, making it quick and efficent
One weakness of using a Mac is that sometimes I could not access my other files from other computers, making it much longer to transfer these files from one computer to another.
Overall, my personal development of using the Mac was that it was quite easy to adapt to from using the other computers, due to it having different apps and browsers such as safari or the essential app FinalCutPro
Post-Production
Blogger.
Blogger was also used a lot in our Post-Production, due to it being an essential software throughout the whole of the course. In our post-production we used our Blogger to upload our evaluations and videos to evaluate our opening sequence verbally as well.
A strength of using Blogger was not only how we could easily organised it was also the ability for our teacher to look at anytime when we publish so it we could easily get feedback and if it is up to date. It was simple to use as well as there was barely any problems with publishing any documents making it also efficient to use.
However , a problem with using Blogger was that if i need to do any work it had to be on the internet. Therefore, most of the work I had to do home could be risky due to my internet going down at the times meaning I could lose my work
Overall, my personal development of using Blogger was that the internet problem did not become much of an issue due to most of my work being done at school and uploaded at a near time where my teacher could give me feedback
FinalCutPro
The editing software was again used in the Post-Production to edit our evaulation and upload it to youtube. Making it quite beneficial for us to use FinalCutPro on our Post-Production part. Or checking over any mistakes in our opening sequence.
One strength of using FinalCutPro was that editing our evaluation was useful. This is due to some interruptions that were involved while we were talking therefore, we could easily cut out these parts and making the evaluation flow with continuity. In addition, to checking any mistakes or adding new font that reflects the conventions of a BSR
However, a weakness of using FinalCutPro was that it was quite time-consuming to edit parts out and cut parts out precisely so that there was no mistakes, which took quite a bit of effort
Overall, my personal development with using FinalCutPro was that it was beneficial to a lot of our work, from the opening sequence to the editing of our evaluation, it made us explore different conventions within font of the opening sequence and keeping our evaluation videos have no mistakes, with flowing speech.
